Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care (RQF)

The primary purpose of the qualification is to help you prepare to enter, or progress within, employment in job roles in the Health and Social Care sector, specifically roles that require knowledge and understanding of dementia. This qualification is appropriate for you if, in your day-to-day work role (or planned work role), you are in contact with people suffering from dementia.

This qualification is made up of units that will develop your knowledge, understanding and awareness, needed to work with people with dementia; including what dementia is, forms of dementia and the person-centred approach to dementia care and support. You will be able to use the knowledge you develop to underpin your competence.

  • This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or above who wish to progress onto further education or the workplace.
  • There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification.

  • Unit 2: The person-centered approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia (2 credits)
  • Unit 3: Understand behavior in the context of dementia (3 credits)
  • Unit 4: Dementia Awareness (2 credits)
  • Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centered approach (2 credits)
  • Unit 6: Understand the Benefits of Engaging in Activities in Social Care (2 credits)
  • Unit 7: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia (2 credits)
